Dorchester South Street Closure Continues to Block Pedestrian Access

Dorchester South Street Closure Continues to Block Pedestrian Access

Following the monthly Dorchester Transport Action Group (DTAG) zoom meeting on 11th March, Stewart Palmer, Chair, wrote to our Member of Parliament Edward Morello. He expressed our great concern over the continued closure of South Street to pedestrians. He also copied in the Leader of Dorset Council, Cllr Nick Ireland.

It is now 3 months since what is probably the most important pedestrian route in Dorchester was closed after a fire.  As of last week, nobody seems to be able to give a target date for reopening.

The alternative routes for pedestrians are very unsatisfactory, particularly for those people with children’s buggies, wheelchairs or mobility scooters, or those who have trouble negotiating uneven surfaces and steps.

Stewart urged Mr Morello to apply as much pressure as possible to expedite the work and provide a target date for the provision of a direct level access between the two portions of South Street. We await his response.
