Could a car club work in Dorchester?

With no loan costs, garage bills, MOTs, tax, insurance and petrol bills, could a car club be a smart alternative to traditional car ownership? Users sign up and gain access to a fleet of over 600 vehicles across the UK, available 24/7 on a street nearby. You don’t need to own a car to get the benefits. Just borrow a car, and only pay when you use it.

DTAG’s Zoom catchup on 11th February at 10am will hear from Robert Schopen of CoWheels, a pay-as-you-go community car hire scheme, where members can hire vehicles from convenient locations across the UK. Co Wheels is a nonprofit social enterprise.

Find out how it works, what it costs, and the benefits of car clubs to individuals, families and local communities. We will be discussing how this might work in Dorchester as part of improved travel options and better, safer, less congested streets. We should also bear in mind that at least 1 in 5 households have no access to their own car.

Check our online calendar and add the date to your diary. You can access the meeting here.

  1. As a Poundbury resident who spends a lot of time abroad I would welcome a scheme that would mean I didn’t have to buy a car or spend huge amounts of money on hire cars so yes, definitely interested in this scheme.
