Our guest speaker was Chris Todd from Transport Action Network.
Chris spoke about the work of the network which had emerged from “Transport 2000” and was focused on challenging the inconsistencies in government policy including the use of legal challenges to proposals.
He emphasised the importance of getting specific deliverables and necessary funding written into the coming new joint Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP 4) and to ensure that the emerging policies produced a “win win” rather than trading off one objective with a negative impact on other modes. For example, it is no good encouraging on- street car charging if it produces obstructions on the pathways that then discourage walking.
