Chasing The Sun – a film to inspire

Bournemouth University is hosting a series of film events designed to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. These screenings use film as a powerful medium to educate, inspire reflection, and encourage meaningful action.

The next event features Chasing the Sun, on Wednesday, 26th March 2025, at 4 PM, and features the impact of cycling on people’s lives.

Each event includes a film screening followed by an expert panel discussion with audience Q&A. Before the film begins and after the panel discussion, attendees can explore an exhibition showcasing Bournemouth University’s research and the work of local organizations, businesses, and community groups connected to the film’s themes. This is an excellent opportunity for networking and collaboration.

Chasing the Sun

From two-time BAFTA-winning director Michael B. Clifford, Chasing the Sun explores the profound impact of cycling on individuals and communities.

In 1973, a professor at a little-known American university set out to determine the most energy-efficient creature on Earth. The surprising answer? A human on a bicycle.

This legendary experiment remains more relevant than ever. The film delves into the inspiring stories of everyday cyclists chasing the sun, illustrating how the simple bicycle can transform lives, enhance public health, foster community, and contribute to a sustainable future—one pedal stroke at a time. It also highlights the inclusivity and accessibility of cycling for all ages and abilities. Watch the trailer!

Dilys Gartside from the Dorchester Transport Action Group, who collaborates with Bournemouth University’s Sustainability Team, shares her enthusiasm: “This is a fantastic film that will inspire both seasoned cyclists and those considering taking up cycling. It’s a story for all ages and abilities.”

The event is FREE, but tickets must be booked in advance via Eventbrite. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be inspired and get involved!
