Bus Users is the national charity working to make sure that everyone, wherever they are and whatever their needs may be, has access to the best possible transport links.

Campaign for Better Transport is the national movement for high quality, sustainable transport that meets community need, improves quality of life and protects the environment.

Dorchester Disabled Club run minibuses enabling people with disabilities to enjoy get togethers, shopping trips, days out and other activities. The buses are available by other organisations and residential homes by authorised drivers.

The Dorchester Strollers were formed in July 2003 and is run by volunteers. We are a friendly group offering free walks with trained leaders and backmarkers on Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Walks start at different points in Dorchester and usually finish with a sociable tea or coffee.

Dorchester Town Council is the parish authority for the county town of Dorset, providing a range of community and recreational facilities.

Dorset CAN works to inform, help and encourage families, businesses and individuals to reduce their carbon footprint and minimise the climate and nature crisis. They also encourage Dorset and BCP Councils to help make this happen.

They act as an umbrella organisation to the many climate and eco orientated groups across Dorset.

Dorset Community Transport – or DCT for short – provides a wide range of services: door-to-door PlusBus services; local bus routes that connect rural communities; Group Transport minibuses for local community groups; and high-quality home-to-school transport. We’re a part of ECT Charity.

Dorset Council is the unitary local authority for the district of Dorset in England, encompassing most of the area of the county of the same name, Dorset.
 
From May 2024, the council has been run by the Liberal Democrats.

Low Traffic Future is an alliance of individuals and organisations who want it to be easy and enjoyable to get around by walking, wheeling or cycling, and for public or shared transport to be cheaper and more accessible. This will make day-to-day journeys good for our health, our communities, our economy and our environment.

On Time Trains calculates which services are due delay repay payments, and links to the relevant delay reply site, making your claim much easier.

Purbeck Community Rail Partnership works to engage the local community in the line between Weymouth, through Dorchester and on to Purbeck, including the Swanage Heritage Railway.
 
The steering group includes Swanage Railway, South Western railway, Dorset Council, Network Rail, Swanage Town Council, Perenco UK, National Trust, RSPB and the Community Rail Network.

Railfuture is the UK's leading independent organisation campaigning for better rail services for passengers and freight. It is a voluntary group representing rail users, with 20,000 affiliated and individual members; all members have an equal say.

The chair of Dorchester Transport Action Group Stewart Palmer is also a Vice Chair of Railfuture.

South Wessex Community Rail Partnership exists to serve the communities around that part of the Heart of Wessex Line which runs from Frome to Weymouth through Dorchester West station.
 
Principal stakeholders are Great Western Railways, South Western Railways, Somerset Council and Dorset Council. Network Rail also support the work of the Partnership.
South Western Railway provides trains from London Waterloo through Dorchester South station and on to Weymouth.
 
The company is one of the first to be brought back into public ownership by the Labour government.

Transport Action Network's role is to help communities press for better and more sustainable transport. We support more investment in bus and rail services and active travel.

TAN is a national body with six memebrs of staff. It works closely with local Transport Action Groups, but is independent from them.

Transport Focus is the independent watchdog for transport users, aiming to get the best deal for passengers and road users.

TF provide information and advice around passenger rights, complaints, and getting the best deal.

Wessex First Bus provides routes around Dorset and South Somerset, including the busy No. 10 Bus from Dorchester to Weymouth, and the X51 from Weymouth through Dorchester and Martinstown to Bridport, Lyme Regis and Axminster station.

The Wessex Wanderer Rail Walks programme consists of circular and linear walks of various lengths which start and finish from stations along the Heart of Wessex (Bristol to Weymouth) railway line. The programme normally takes place between April and October each year and all are welcome.

West Dorset Area Transport Action Group exist to promote public transport and active travel in the west of the county. WATAG centres on Bridport and links with surrounding areas as far as Axminster, Crewkerne, Weymouth and Dorchester, addressing topics such as buses, cycling, rail and safer streets.

The Western Gateway is one of seven Sub-national Transport Bodies in England.

It comprises Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole Council, Bristol City Council, Dorset Council, Gloucestershire County Council, North Somerset Council, South Gloucestershire Council, Wiltshire Council and the West of England Combined Authority.
