We are holding a community cycle ride on Sunday 13 July. It all starts at 12noon with a ride round the Great Field for young cyclists. Any youngsters who would like to use their scooter are welcome to do so.
There will then be a ride for older children and adults. The route has yet to be finalised but the idea is to go round town, through town and then back to the Great Field. We are liaising with the police on the route and there will be trained cycle and pedestrian marshals.
The aim is to promote cycling as an enjoyable activity. It has health benefits as well as reducing car usage. We also want to highlight the need for adequate proper cycle routes so that cycling can be as safe as possible.
We are hoping to have free hi-viz jackets for all participating children! And a prize for the best ‘blinged’ bike or scooter.
After the ride we are inviting everyone to stay on the Great Field for a picnic. On the same day Age UK are holding their summer fair, and they will have lots of food and refreshment stalls. With lots going on it should be a great afternoon for everyone.
