“See you at the big event!”

“See you at the big event!”

On Saturday 14 June Dorchester Transport Action Group held a stall in South Street, Dorchester.  The aim was to promote the coming Big Dorchester Transport Conversation open meeting on Wednesday 18 June, 7-9pm at The Corn Exchange.

During the morning supporters spoke to members of the public asking them about their top transport gripes in the town and surrounding area.  Does it feel safe for children to walk or cycle to school?  What are the challenges for people with reduced mobility, how could these be addressed?  What stops you leaving your car at home and what needs to happen to make that easier?

Giles Watts, Dorchester Transport Action Group Secretary said, “We wanted to find out what transport improvements people would like to see in and around Dorchester.  For car and public transport users and those who walk and cycle. That’s one of the questions we’ll be asking at the open meeting on 18 June.  But we wanted to get the conversation going now, out in the street, talking to members of the local community”.

During the morning supporters spoke to a lot of people and listened to their concerns and ideas for improvements.  “We’ll be using their comments to help shape our campaign programme for the next couple of years”, said Stewart Palmer, Chair of the Transport Action Group. “We handed out a lot publicity material and we got some good quality input from some of the local residents which we will feed into the conversation on Wednesday evening.  So see you all for the big event!”
