DTAG again assisted local groups to clear vegetation along the disused railway line from Maiden Newton to Bridport on 20th November 2024.
Several sections of this route are already accessible to walkers and off road push bikes. Dorset Council have recently announced an initiative which they hope will persuade some remaining farmers along the Toller to Maiden Newton section to allow access.
Volunteers, including the Mayor of Dorchester Robin Potter, were welcomed by several cyclists and walkers on the day appreciative of the work being done to improve this green route.
After a morning of hard work, the local economy was also supported through the consumption of an excellent lunch at the Crown Inn of Uploders.
A further session is planned for Saturday 30th November. For further information, contact DTAG Secretary Giles Watts.

How’s the route now ? Ide love to walk from Bridport to maiden Newton along the old railway track , is it possible yet ? 6th August 2025 today
I understand the section near Maiden Newton is still not open, but I’ve cycled along to the blocked bit and then by lanes to Maiden Newton (largely) and I’d highly recommend it!
