Work was carried out yesterday, 11 April, to create a pedestrian link between the two sides of South Street following the major fire last December. Since then shops in that area have been closed and pedestrians have had to take a complex, and not very accessible, route to get to those shops that were able to open.
Finally, after four months, the street has become accessible for pedestrians. Stewart Palmer, Chair Dorchester Transport Action Group, said “Great to see this happen. I walked down South Street today and wanted to share some photos with you. Hopefully recent pressure from Dorchester Transport Action Group and others has helped to make this happen. However four months is just an unacceptable length of time”.
