The X51 campaign: local voices matter

The X51 campaign: local voices matter

Back in August, DTAG shared a survey from the Western Area Transport Action Group (WATAG) survey calling for improvements to the X51 bus service.

The X51 is a key bus route for West Dorset, connecting Bridport and Lyme Regis with Dorchester, Dorset County Hospital and three railway stations. WATAG is campaigning for the return of a year-round hourly service.

Strong public response to X51 campaign

The survey has now closed, with 685 people responding — well above WATAG’s target of 500.

WATAG will now analyse the responses in detail and use the findings to help make the case for a year-round hourly X51 service, together with a more useful evening service. The findings will be shared with local representatives, councils and operators as important evidence to support the campaign.

The role of Transport Action Groups

Transport Action Groups (or TAGs) are independent local groups that give Dorset communities a voice on transport issues.

TAGs don’t run buses, build cycle routes or make decisions about our roads. Our role is to listen to local people, identify the issues that matter and make the case for improvements.

Surveys, consultations and conversations are an important part of that, helping us understand people’s experiences and priorities.

Because transport doesn’t stop at town boundaries, TAGs often work together too. The X51 is a good example.

Thank you for having your say

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey.

It’s a useful reminder of why having your say matters. One response to a survey or consultation might not feel significant, but when lots of people take part, those individual views become a much stronger collective voice.

We wish WATAG every success with the next stage of the campaign.
