Public Meeting in Stratton Village Hall – Wednesday 17 September 2025, 7pm.

Residents living in Stratton have expressed a concern that there is no public bus service at all for the village. So Dorchester Transport Action Group are holding an open meeting on Wednesday 17 September in Stratton Village Hall to see if there would be active support in campaigning for a local bus service.

Dorchester Transport Action Group held their annual open meeting on Wednesday 18 June at the Corn Exchange, Dorchester. Some 30 people attended and overall there was a consensus on many issues and what should be done to improve matters surrounding walking, cycling, cars and public transport.

One big area of concern was around lack of public transport in villages surrounding Dorchester. The situation in Stratton came up in the meeting and a number of people from Stratton, (unable to attend the meeting due to the lack of any bus service!), had commented on the DTAG website:

“If you don’t have your own transport in Stratton then you are very isolated. A bus service would enable those who have to give up driving for whatever reason, to keep their independence and quality of life”.

“We should have a bus service in Stratton, The old people are completely cut off when they have to surrender their cars & loneliness could become a serious issue”.

“Villages, like Stratton are starved of public transport, especially between Yeovil and Dorchester. With an ageing population and a push to become greener a bus link through Stratton is essential”.

William Gibbons, the DTAG lead for buses, said “Having listened to points raised at our meeting and comments from Stratton residents, we thought it would be a good idea to see if there would be sufficient interest in local Stratton residents getting together to campaign for a local bus service. So we’ve organised this open meeting and hope that there is a good turn out and this can be taken forward”.
