Community Cycle Ride sparkles in the sunshine

Community Cycle Ride sparkles in the sunshine

Despite the hot weather and blustery winds, our second Community Cycle Ride successfully took place last Sunday.

Starting from the Great Field in Poundbury, A group of about 30 intrepid cyclists of all ages were launched off by Mayor and Lady Mayor Les and Julie Fry.

The group made a circular route down Damers Road – where we are campaigning for a safe, separated cycle route to Poundbury – before stopping off at the entrance to Borough Gardens.

We cycled to the centre of Dorchester where we processed down South Street ringing our bells and honking our horns.

The route took us back via a water stop near the war memorial and we traversed the new widened joint pedestrian/cyclepath under the railway bridge which has recently been built and which was campaigned for and supported by Dorchester Transport Action group (DTAG).

Finally we returned to the Great Field via Maud Road, Cambridge road and St John’s roundabout.

We were welcomed back to applause, chocolate medals for the children and the very welcome sight of an ice cream van.

Many thanks to everyone who supported the event including the Dorchester Town Council, PIP cafe, Cycling without Age and Blood Bikes.
