The X51 bus route, connecting Dorchester — including the County Hospital — with Bridport, Lyme Regis and Axminster, is widely regarded as West Dorset’s primary core bus route.
Yet the service currently operates only approximately every two hours, with no X51 services from Dorchester after 7pm. For people who rely on public transport, this makes it difficult to travel between our towns for work, appointments, shopping, leisure and evening activities.
WATAG (Western Area Transport Action Group), a transport campaigning group based in Bridport and covering West Dorset, is calling for the reinstatement of a year-round hourly X51 service. Together with a more useful evening service.
Dorchester Transport Action Group strongly supports this campaign. But we need to demonstrate strong public support if we are to persuade decision-makers that an improved service is needed.
WATAG has launched a survey to gather views and support for the campaign, and we encourage everyone who uses, or would like to use, the X51 to complete it.
It takes only a few minutes to complete, so please take the time to have your say and support the campaign for a better X51 service.
